As of this date we have donated 15 bicycles equipped with lights and locks; 20 backpacks; hundreds of personal care items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, tooth brushes and tooth paste, feminine hygiene products as well as laundry detergent, hand and dish soap, toilet paper and dozens of pairs of socks. All basic items we take for granted but so important to daily life.
The bicycles provide a method of transportation to job interviews, work, appointments, food stores, meetings (including AA, NA and counseling) or to connect with a friend or sponsor. By donating all the personal care items, we allow the recovering addict/alcoholic to use their meager funds for other essentials, typically food, basic clothing and shelter.
We provided $2,000 in Gift Cards that are selectively given out by the managers to those with the greatest need. These individuals are typically new to the sober house and have no funds to purchase anything, even food. Many arrive with nothing but the clothes on their back and the intense desire to be clean and sober. It helps these men and women feel like humans and know that someone cares. The disease of addiction is relentless. Our support encourages them to fight for their very life, for one more day. The gratitude they show is heartwarming.
There are no words for us to adequately express our thanks for your love, support, prayers, friendship and extreme generosity. This past year has been indescribable. We are not sure why we were given this path to travel but we do know our journey has only just begun.
The Good News
We are officially a 501(c)(3) Public Charity. Your donations are tax deductible to the extent the law allows; very much needed and greatly appreciated. Our commitment is to match all donations dollar for dollar.
